When it comes to visiting Orlando, most people think about the theme parks, tours and spending a day at one of the local beaches. But there are tons of places that are worth visiting in Orlando, and one of the often overlooked areas is the wide variety of unique restaurants that you won’t find anywhere else in the world. Orlando has one of the biggest selections of these types of fun and crazy restaurants and if you are going on vacation or visiting there, you should definitely check out these nine.
The World’s Largest McDonalds
6875 W Sand Lake Rd, Orlando, FL 32819
First up is the world’s largest McDonalds. This is a massive fast food restaurant with more than 18,000 square feet of space, standing more than 48 feet tall. What is really amazing about this McDonald’s is that you will find all of the regular menu items that you love, but you can create your own unique salads, burgers and more using an expanded menu of toppings and other options. For example, you can choose McDonald’s omelets, pizzas, pastas, waffles and more. Of course, the world’s largest McDonald’s wouldn’t be complete without a play area, and this one is massive including a huge gaming arcade, lots of different slides tunnels and climbing gyms for kids to play on plus lots and lots of other features.
Pom Pom’s Teahouse and Sandwicheria
67 N Bumby Ave, Orlando, FL 32803
Visiting Pom Pom’s is an absolute necessity when you go to Orlando. This unique restaurant is located in the milk district and features some of the most unique sandwich combinations that you have ever seen in your life. They have so many different creative sandwiches that are unlike those you will find anywhere else in the world that they are even a staple among locals in Orlando. In addition, they have lots of different homemade soups and teas that change daily. It offers a small and intimate restaurant and has really friendly service, but it’s not too far off of the beaten tourist track.
Sci-Fi Dine-in Theater Restaurant
351 S Studio Dr, Kissimmee, FL 32830
If you love old sci-fi, and you will absolutely love the Sci-fi Dine-in Theater Restaurant. The first thing you should understand is that this place is a mix between a drive-in theater in an indoor restaurant. That means that when you are shown to your table, you are basically being shown to your car. Each car is able to seat six patrons, and you will be able to check out old sci-fi classics on the massive screens located on both sides of the restaurant. There are restaurants out there with better food, but for those who really want a unique theme and atmosphere there are very few better options.
Sharks Underwater Grill
7007 Sea World Dr, Orlando, FL 32821
Shark’s Underwater Grill is another themed restaurant with the right atmosphere. It is located inside SeaWorld Orlando and the food is pretty good here as well, but what you will mostly be paying attention to is the atmosphere and the spectacular views. The view simply cannot be beat. You will basically be eating in an underground aquarium with all sorts of fish to look at on all sides. If you love going to the aquarium at the zoo, then you are going to love eating at this restaurant because it has just as much to offer as some of the zoo aquariums out there. Not only are the walls giant aquariums, but the bar tops themselves are aquariums.
The Ravenous Pig
565 W Fairbanks Ave, Winter Park, FL 32789
The Ravenous Pig is where the locals go when they’re looking for a delicious burger and fries and ice-cold drinks. The service is really great, the atmosphere is amazing and the prices are pretty good, too. While there isn’t too much that is unique about the atmosphere with the core, it is simply one of the best restaurants in Orlando according to local and people that are visiting there. It’s definitely worth a visit if you have some time to spare and want to go and get a big hearty burger. They also have a huge selection of drinks, so if you are looking for a place to party for a few hours then this is a good choice as well.
Dick’s Last Resort
8201 Vineland Ave, Orlando, FL 32821
If you haven’t been to a Dick’s before, then you are in for a treat, and the one in Orlando is one of the best. This is not the restaurant that you take your kids too, but when it comes to adults having a great time, this is one of the great American institutions. If you do not have a sense of humor, or you are not okay with an adult-themed atmosphere, then you may want to skip this restaurant. The waiters are surly, the staff gives you giant hats to wear that say things like “This woman is the reason men like men” and that’s one of the nice ones. But it is a great time to be had if you can handle the funny.
White Wolf Café
1829 N Orange Ave, Orlando, FL 32804
If you are in the mood for lunch, the White Wolf Cafe is one of the best spots in the city. It may not look like much from the outside, but don’t let that fool you. There are some really unique menu options that you wouldn’t normally think of but when you taste them, you’ll wonder how you lived without them for so long; For example, lobster mac & cheese. But there are lots of other things to choose from as well including lunch and dinner options, cinnamon rolls and a variety of drinks.
Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen
6000 Universal Blvd, Orlando, FL 32819
This is an over-the- top restaurant that makes you feel as if you are dining on a movie set or have crossed over into some magical chocolatey land. The staff dress and Victorian era costumes, there is steampunk everywhere and it is definitely a page out of the famous chocolate movie with the golden tickets. The best part is that it’s located in Universal’s CityWalk, so you don’t have to pay park admission to visit this restaurant and if you go after 6PM you don’t even have to pay for parking.
Finally, the Medieval Times Dinner Tournament will send you back in time a thousand years or so where you can eat food items that they actually ate the Middle Ages, plus watch knights battle it out on the tournament grounds and basically feel as if you have been able to witness a period of history as you eat your dinner.
